AME SSAQQAB PLATFORM LEG. Wool. Tuareg people. Niger. Early 20th. century. Good condition with erosion and cracks. Cm. 15 x 105 ( 6" x 41" ). One of a couple. SOLD.
Four matching ame ssaqqab legs formed a litter on camelback, then were turned upside-down inside a Tuareg family's tent to form a platform. Although the wood is extremely hard, some of the ame ssaqqab legs have eroded ends, splits or cracks. The wood is dark and the apparent discoloration is natural.
Knob-like upper part, corpus completely decorated with ornamental and geometrical designs. Price on request.
