Chirpy side panel

Chirpy side panel. Silk on cotton. Tekke Tribe. Central Asia. Late 19th C. Very good condition. Cm. 42 x 78 ( 1'5" x 2'7").
The side panel from a woman’s garment (‘chyrpy’) exhibiting a design type that is typical of the design pool associated with the textile art of the Tekkè. The design consists of silk embroidery on a blue/black handloomed silk ground cloth. The brilliant colors reflect a palette associated with textiles from the late 19th century, especially the clear yellow dyed silk. The clear madder red is quite attractive with none of the brownish color quality typical of the truly later examples from the 20th century. The work is fine, the condition is good, and all the colors are derived from natural dyes.
