Suzani. Silk embroidery on cotton natural dyes. Uzbekistan. First half 19th. century. The condition is very good, with 1-2 tiny repairs to the cotton ground and some to the silk stitch. Cm. 175 x 202 (5'9" x 6'8"). The huge, different, flower arrangement, occupying such a large part of the home-spun cotton ground, is very rare indeed. It has a somewhat Mughal feel to it, although much more adapted to the early Uzbek style. Bold and rare design. The beautiful colour palette is quite varied, with naturally-dyed reds, greens, yellows, blues and rose. Price on request.
