Garment cover "Rumal". Embroidered cotton. Chamba area - Himachal Pradesh. India. Circa 1850. Very good condition with some stains. Cm. 66 x 66 (2’2” x 2’2”). Sewn onto a cotton ground and mounted on a wooden stretcher. This small cotton cloth is a cover, which was stitched in the 19th century in Chamba, north-west India. During the 18th and 19th centuries, textiles like these were used to cover trays, offerings and gifts. They could be printed, painted or stitched and were called rumals. SOLD.
